Allergen menu info on tap with new POSLink feature

POSlink has added a brand new allergen information feature to help operators comply with new compulsory food labelling laws due to be introduced in December 2014.

Staff simply press a button on the POSLink touchscreen to immediately access and view allergen dietary requirements, recipe and nutritional information for every item on a menu.

Individual ingredient information provided by suppliers is stored on a database.

Allergens, calories and fat content  can be highlighted whenever the product is used in a recipe.

When a customer orders, staff simply press to access the menu information which is linked to a selling item (PLU).  This can even be printed and handed to the customer.

New allergen labelling requirements compulsory

Under new UK allergen labelling laws all food service organisations must supply written details of all menu items that contain the EU’s top 14 allergens for food served on site or packaged for immediate consumption.

The legislation is being introduced by the Food Standards Agency (FSA) and DEFRA  and applies to all food operators, irrespective of size or type of operation.

Information must be clearly seen or available in an obvious place, such as a menu, chalkboard, information  pack or via your EPOS solution.

Non-compliance will result in heavy fines from local environmental health officers.

Here are the EU’s top 14 allergens

  • Eggs
  • Molluscs
  • Crustaceans
  • Celery
  • Milk
  • Fish
  • Treenuts
  • Sulphites
  • Soya
  • Sesame
  • Peanuts
  • Mustard
  • Lupin
  • Gluten
